William F. Buckley Fellow in Political Journalism

National Review Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of this year’s William F. Buckley Fellows in Political Journalism. Two talented young conservatives were chosen from among scores of impressive aspiring journalists. Their academic records, published writings, and strong recommendations make them ideally suited to take advantage of the Fellowships’ opportunities.
Brian Bolduc, an economics major who will be graduated with honors from Harvard University next month, was editor of The Harvard Salient, the conservative biweekly on campus, and a columnist for The Harvard Crimson. Last summer, Brian was an intern at the Yankee Institute in his home state of Connecticut, and this summer he will be a Robert L. Bartley Fellow at The Wall Street Journal
Matthew Shaffer graduates next month from Yale College with a BA in Economics and Humanities. Matt was editor in chief of the Yale Free Press and a columnist for the Yale Daily News. He was a research assistant at the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal and was selected as a Koch Fellow last summer. Matt is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidates School.
Bill Buckley identified and encouraged two generations of conservative journalists.  These year-long Fellowships continue his legacy by providing an opportunity for young journalists to write and edit while learning about print journalism from some its most talented practitioners.
